A Personal Letter from Dr. Celeste Krawchuk
Hello and welcome to Berryville Family Chiropractic!
Patients tell us that they find our office in a number of ways. Many are referred by friends or family, some are looking for a chiropractor in their area and others drive by and see our sign. Most of our patients are either seeking relief from an ache or pain and others are trying to improve their health, order to specialize in a particular area. There are many specialties including: nutrition, acupuncture, orthopedics, neurology, radiology and pediatrics, to name the most common. Not all choose to specialize but instead opt to give routine chiropractic care.
Why did I choose to specialize in the care of pregnant women and children?
I decided to specialize after spending two years at Kentuckiana Children’s Center, which is a non-profit chiropractic center for special needs children. I quickly learned that I needed to be better informed, not only to work with the special needs population, but with children with wonderful health though those who are having health issues.
My post-graduate training in pediatrics and pregnancy consisted of a rigorous three year program co-sponsored by Palmer College of Chiropractic
and the International Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics (www.icapediatrics.com).
The first year of the program featured the study of normal and abnormal consideration and conditions encountered during a child’s growth from prenatal care through adolescence. We were taught more in- depth examinations for each stage of life a child goes through, newborn, infant, toddler and school aged. During the second year, studies included neurology, personal injury, sports injuries, orthopedics, radiology, nutrition, cranial sacral technique, and toxicology. The third year brought functional nutrition, autoimmunity and developmental disorders. We engaged in hands-on experiential learning, coupled with independent study and research. There were also lengthy written and oral examinations that we had to sit for, culminating in the challenging board exam to earn the status of a Diplomate in Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics (D.I.C.C.P.)
